Biology and Science Teacher (Full Time, Term 1 to Term 3)

Newcastle Grammar School is the pre-eminent co-educational independent school in the Hunter Region for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We offer an innovative and holistic academic environment that fosters personal achievement to deliver first class outcomes for our students. 

The Role

A passionate Biology Teacher is sought for a full-time contract to join our dynamic STEM Department.
We are looking for an engaging, motivated and enthusiastic teacher who will be responsible for teaching senior Biology as well as Science from Years 7 to 10.

About You

Head of Language and Literacy – Commencing 2025 

The Role

Newcastle Grammar School is inviting applications for the role of Head of Language and Literacy to commence in 2025. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated leader to uphold and advance the culture of excellence within the department.

You will be responsible for mentoring and supporting staff in adopting best practices as well as overseeing the development and implementation of a high-quality curriculum across all stages.

About You 
You are a passionate employee who has: 

  • A current Working With Children Check to ensure compliance with NSW Government guidelines.
  • Possession of a degree or its equivalent of a recognised tertiary institution with appropriate academic qualifications in the relevant subject area.
  • Eligibility for NSW Teacher Accreditation.

Head of Learning Enhancement (Secondary) – 2025 commencement

The Role

As the Head of Learning Enhancement, you will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and management of the Learning Support Department. This includes overseeing the identification, assessment, and support of students with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring that every student receives tailored support to access the curriculum and achieve their personal best.

The position commences at the start of Term 1 2025. 

About You 
You are a passionate employee who has: 

  • Formal teaching qualifications.
  • Post graduate qualifications in Special Education or Inclusive Education
  • Current NESA registration.
  • Sound knowledge of and experience in NCCD policies and procedures
  • Experience leading and managing a diverse team.
  • A valid Working with Children’s Check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and practices in regard to students with learning difficulties, disabilities and additional needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in an inclusive education capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to write appropriate and targeted student progress reports.

HSIE – Global Studies Teacher 

The Role

The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for international cultures, global issues, and historical perspectives to create an engaging and thought-provoking learning experience. This individual will be responsible for designing and delivering curriculum that helps students understand complex global systems, cultures, and political landscapes, preparing them for success in a multicultural world. Experience teaching Business Studies, Legal Studies and/or Commerce would be highly beneficial.

The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for international cultures, global issues, and historical perspectives to create an engaging and thought-provoking learning experience. This individual will be responsible for designing and delivering curriculum that helps students understand complex global systems, cultures, and political landscapes, preparing them for success in a multicultural world. Additional experience teaching Business Studies, Legal Studies and/or Commerce would be highly beneficial.

Learning Support Officer (Secondary) – 2025 commencement

The Role

An opportunity now exists for an experienced Learning Support Officers to join our team of dedicated professionals in a permanent full-time capacity commencing in Term 1, 2025. 

As a Learning Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and the tools required to succeed. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other support staff to help with individualised learning plans and foster an inclusive learning environment.

About You 
You are a passionate employee who has: 

  • A Certificate III (or higher) in Education Support 
  • Previous experience supporting students with a disability in a high school setting
  • A valid Working with Children Check
  • The ability to assist in the implementation of individual learning programmes and is passionate about student wellbeing
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, other educators and support classroom teachers to assist all students to reach their full potential
  • The ability to work with students individually or in small groups
  • The ability to maintain accurate student records

Mathematics Teacher – Full time – Semester 1 (Parental Leave contract)

The Role

An opportunity now exists for a Mathematics teacher to join our team of dedicated professionals. 

Located within our vibrant STEM department, this is a temporary (6 month) full-time position that requires the ability to teach up to Stage 6 Mathematics. You will have a genuine enthusiasm for mathematics and a desire to help students develop problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of the subject.

Commencing in Term 1, 2025 this role is a varied and challenging position that will provide the right candidate with a high degree of professional satisfaction.

Maintenance Services Officer

The Role

A full-time opportunity now exists for a Maintenance Services Officer to join the Property Services team. The Property Services Department is actively engaged in supporting the efficient and effective running of the School’s day to day operations through effective maintenance and operational support.

The successful candidate will be a competent, capable and caring individual who is able to work cohesively as a team player. The candidate will display and be able to evidence a strong commitment to the School’s values – Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence – and will present and communicate in a welcoming and professional way with School stakeholders including students, staff, contractors, parents and the broader School community.

The Property Services Department is responsible for working across a variety of spaces conducting a range of tasks such as:

  • Painting
  • Low risk repairs and maintenance (ie light tube replacement)
  • Minor carpentry and plumbing repairs
  • Door repairs including handles, locks and hinges
  • General handyman duties
  • Landscaping including mowing, hedging, pruning and using a variety of other landscape power tools
  • Event set up and support including setting of chairs and tables for assemblies and large gatherings, offsite events etc
  • Furniture relocations
  • Receiving and delivering parcels
  • Working knowledge and history of applying safe work practices in a property environment including using SWMS, identifying and mitigating safety issues/practices

About You

You will have:

  • A valid Working With Children Check (essential)
  • Experience and knowledge of a diverse range of hand and power tools (essential) 
  • A current Senior First Aid certificate
  • Trade qualifications in carpentry, maintenance plumbing, horticulture or prior experience in a similar independent school role will be considered highly
  • A valid White Card or OHS induction certificate from other states is advantageous
  • Electrical Tagging certifications (advantageous but not essential)
  • LR driver’s licence (advantageous but not essential)

This is a Full-time role working across the School’s two Campuses (located in Cook’s Hill and The Hill). The role has been assessed as a Level 1 General Hand under the School’s current MEA (the Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021). Remuneration will be considered where a specific skill or trade qualification of interest to the School is confirmed.
