Integrating the Duke of Edinburgh International Award as the cornerstone of our NGS Co-curricular program from Year 8 ensures that students are well-prepared for future challenges in a competitive global environment, focusing on skill and character development, resilience, community and leadership.
The structured nature of the Award motivates and engages students, encouraging them to set and achieve their own personal goals. Students participate in four key sections—Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service, and Adventurous Journey—across the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. Additionally, students will have opportunities to contribute positively to society through service projects and volunteering, fostering strong connections with their local community.
Bronze Award
The Bronze Award is the first step in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, encouraging students to contribute through service, develop new skills, engage in physical activity, and complete an adventurous journey that builds teamwork and resilience. All Year 8 students have the opportunity to complete the award, commencing with their Year 8 Camp in Term 2, supported by NGS Co‑curricular staff and embedded within fortnightly PDHPE lessons as a structured pathway to an internationally recognised qualification.
Silver Award
The Silver Award builds on the Bronze level, requiring a longer commitment and greater challenge. Participants enhance their skills, volunteer in their communities, and undertake a three-day, two-night expedition, promoting leadership and personal growth.
Gold Award
The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. It requires a substantial dedication to community service, skill enhancement, and physical fitness. Participants also complete a residential project and a challenging four-day expedition.
