Meet the Head of School

Mr Matt Macoustra commenced his position as the Head of School at Newcastle Grammar School in July 2023, bringing over 30 years’ education experience to the role.

Mr Macoustra received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney in 1992 and a Master of Leadership and Management in Education, with Distinction, from The University of Newcastle in 2013. Following three years at Macquarie Boys’ High School in Parramatta, he joined the staff of Barker College as a Science, Geography and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) teacher in 1997. In 2001, he accepted the role of Director of Sport and in 2008 joined the Barker College Senior Executive Team: firstly, as Head of Middle School and finally as the Deputy Head of School (K-12).

In his leadership roles, Mr Macoustra has strong experience in managing the day-to-day school operations, planning and implementing strategic priorities, and working in tandem with the finance, works and building committees. Throughout his career, Mr Macoustra has enjoyed opportunities to impact the spiritual and ethical life of students as well as developing and nurturing the growth of middle leaders amongst staff.
